Car ferry from Split to Korcula

We two seniors with a rental car are arriving in Split on Sat May 31 and would like to depart either Mon June 2 or Tues June 3.
It seems we have two reasonable options for getting from Split to Korcula.
1. Car ferry from Split to Vela Luka on Korcula Island and then drive one hour to Korcula Town.
2. Drive from Split south to Drvenik on the mainland and get a car ferry to Korcula Town.
The questions are:
1. Can we simply buy the car ferry tickets when we arrive in Split?
2. Does anyone have any idea of schedule and cost? Time of departure, etc.
3. Is there anything to consider that I am missing?
4. Rick Steves book says "driving between Split and Korcula is time-consuming and tiring.
5. Is there a website for the ferries which might allow me to buy tickets before leaving California? Or any other helpful
website?
6. Finally does anyone have any recommendations for staying in Korcula Town area?
Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

You can find June schedules and cost at www.jadrolinija.hr. On Prices tab, you'll want to look at Split district to get the correct high-season price table. You can pre-purchase tickets. Jadrolinija has very helpful, English-fluent customer service people who can answer any questions their website doesn't address.

I have heard that is less of an issue in Croatia, but verify with your rental agency that they have no restrictions on taking cars on ferries (maybe they will require additional insurance?) and what issues there may be if you are planning any crossing of borders (To Bosnia and Montenegro would be typical destinations).

hi,
you can book with avax rent a car, they are in ferry port and you are free to go with car when ever you need to go, no extra charge
for that.
