Car ferry from Hvar to Dubrovnik?

Hello!
My partner and I will be in Croatia the first two weeks of October this year.
Our itinerary includes Split - Hvar - Dubrovnik.
I see how we can get on the ferry from Split to Stari Grad on Hvar. No problem there.

My question is how to get to Dubrovnik from Hvar. Do we have to return to Split and drive south from there or is there a ferry port closer to Dubrovnik (that will also take our car) that we can go to?

Also, I see the weather starts to cool in October and the tourist season winds down. Can anyone tell me what their experience has been with traveling in Croatia early October and how the beaches are at that time of year?

As far as I know, this route is no longer served by car ferries. You have a couple alternatives, neither of which may be preferable to driving down from Split depending on your schedule/preferences.
You can drive across Hvar to Sucuraj, then over to Drvenik.
You can take car ferry to Vela Luka on Hvar, then drive across Korcula and to mainland at Orebic.

I have only been in May and June, but I would take a chance on early October. You really never know with the weather these days!
I would expect to not have to prebook everything, so maybe you could keep it flexible.
