Car Ferries in Croatia in May - Advance purchased & queueing

We will be in Croatia in early May and taking the car ferry from Split to Supetar, staying on Brac, then a few days later coming back to Split and taking the car ferry from Split to Vela Luka, and staying in Korcula.
Questions:
1) Can you book a car ferry ticket in advance for these routes? I have read some places that you can but other places only for international routes. I also read that booking in advance doesn't guarantee that you get on that particular ferry, you still need to queue up in advance or you can lose your spot. If that's the case what's the benefit of booking in advance?
2) I've also read that you have to line up 1.5-2 hours in advance to make sure you get on a specific ferry. Is that true in early May as well, or only during the summer months? How early do you need to queue up to guarantee your spot?

Apologies if this is repetitive; I saw some posts on foot passenger ferries in May and some on car ferries in the summer, but couldn't find any on car ferries in May.

There is no point buying car ferry tickets in advance, as they don’t guarantee a place on a particular sailing. Just turn up an hour before sailing, put your car in the queue then go and buy your tickets. You need to pay for the car and each passenger.

You need to check that your hire company will permit you to take the car on ferries, as not all will.

I have been in June and September and an hour is enough, although Saturday is busier. Early May is off season, so an hour should be plenty.
