Buy Ferry Tickets in Advance?

So, our trip to Croatia and Ireland is just under a month away. Yay!

So far, we have not booked anything that we cannot cancel or change, because of concerns over Covid and the war in Ukraine. We've booked flights, accommodations, and a couple of tours.

We are planning to take the ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar island, and tickets for that finally went on sale last week. They are non-refundable, but there is only one ferry per day. Is it likely that spots will sell out in advance?

I never purchased any tickets in advance, but it's been a while. I'd be a little wary in July or August not but in May.
am assuming you mean catamaran and not car ferry, right?
Looks like you have the Jadrolinija catamaran:

Or the Krilo catamaran:

If the worst happened, you could still take a bus to Split and a cat from there.

Right. I missed that there was a 7 am one. I probably blocked it out of my mind. (Not a morning person. LOL) But given there is that other option that doesn't involve a bus to Split, I won't worry too much, then.

I hear ya--not a morning person either!
If you get nervous, you can always just purchase the ticket a day or before. I believe there are ticket points in old town that would not require a trek to the port.

That's good. I can probably buy online, too. Thanks.

Once I'm there, I'm there, and I won't be thinking I might have to cancel. I hope.

Buy them now and cross it off your list. If, and I mean a big if, you don’t use them, the money lost is nominal.

It's about $100 Canadian for two of us. So, yeah, it's not the most expensive item of our trip, but it's not insignificant. I will buy the tickets before I leave, but I think I'll wait until a couple of days ahead if they aren't likely to sell out.

You can always take the ferry to Stari Grad as opposed to the catamaran to Hvar town. There are several sailings a day in each direction.

No need to book in advance.

Thanks, I did look into the ferry to Stari Grad a while ago and couldn't find one for the time of year (May) we're travelling. I'll check again.

There aren't ferries from Dubrovnik to Hvar, only cats. The ferry from Stari Grad on Hvar goes to Split. This runs all year and you will never have a problem with tickets, even in high season, if you are foot passengers.
