My husband and I will be in Rovinj in June. We are trying to get solid info about bus service from there to Ljubljana. We realize that there are several bus operations in Croatia. We also know that some service is seasonal. Can anyone tell us which bus line travels from Rovinj to Ljubljana? We need to know the schedule so we can pull together our itinerary. I have read that the bus departs at 5:00 pm or at 8:00 am. Thanks for any help.
I will also be in Rovinj in June and cannot get a clear grasp on getting from there to Padua. Ferry then bus? Just bus?
Thank you!
Lori
While I always have a car in Istria and have only used hydrofoil service to Venice, let me offer some information since no one else is responding. You might also e-mail your hotel or the local TI to ask about transportation options. And, avoid Sunday travel.
There’s a direct bus from Pula and Porec to Ljubljana, but it doesn’t appear to stop in Rovinj. In June it only runs on Monday and Friday. See www.fils.hr for schedules.
To get from Rovinj to Ljubljana using public transportation you might need to go to Trieste and then to Ljubljana. There’s at least one morning bus from Rovinj to Trieste and an early afternoon bus from Trieste to Ljubljana. Train from Trieste is also an option, but it takes longer. See www.brioni.hr and www.autostazionetrieste.it for bus schedules.
For travel from Rovinj to Padova, there’s better news. There’s a direct bus departing at 5:40am and arriving Padova at 10:45am. Cost is 217 kuna (about $40), which is much less expensive and faster than hydrofoil to Venice and then train to Padova. See the Brioni bus website for schedules.
I'm back from my trip to answer my own question. Until May 26, there was no bus from Rovinj to Ljubljana. This service is seasonal and, unfortunately, our idea of "summer" is different from the European idea. Their summer is more like July and August. We were able to take a bus from Rovinj on June 20. It left at 6:20 pm, arriving in Ljubljana around 10:30pm. As of today, July 1, There are a total of 4 departures from Rovinj. Another thread on this forum indicated that the bus station may have moved. As of now it is at the same location, very conveniently located just a bit east of the old town. I hope this is helpful. By the way, we adored Rovinj and would return.
