In mid May, I am planning to visit Stari Grad (on Hvar Island) and am not able to find the bus schedule on the Cazmatrans website.
Has anyone walked or taken the bus from the town centre of Stari Grad to the ferry terminal?
Is there any shade during the walk?
Also, please send me a link to the bus schedule if you are able to find it for the month of May.
It seems like most of the Island shuts down except for the summer.
I found this schedule: https://www.visit-stari-grad.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/bus-timetable.pdf
I have not been to Stari Grad, but I have always found that buses meet ferries on arrival. Also, once you book your accommodations, inquire with them about transport because more than once I have found Croatian hosts very helpful and you might even score a ride.
In Stari Grad the ferry port is southwest of the old town on the water—and the bus stop is on the northern edge of town. It’s about a 2.5 mile walk from the Stari Grad bus stop to the ferry port so a taxi is necessary with luggage. The bus stop in Hvar Town is right outside the Konzum market near St. Stephen’s Cathedral. May is in the tourist season and will have full bus schedules between Hvar Town and Stari Grad.
The hassle of departing Hvar on a ferry from Stari Grad is the reason why most travelers simply take one of the catamarans ( Krilo or TP Line) directly from Hvar Town’s ferry port right at Hvar Town. You’ll find catamaran schedules at www.DirectFerries.com
Stari Grad itself is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited towns on earth and is well worth exploring as a daytrip from Hvar Town.
Thanks for your replies. I should have mentioned that i will be visiting Hvar Island as a day trip from Split. I plan to arrive by ferry in Hvar Town, spend the morning there, then take the bus to Stari Grad, spend the afternoon, then ferry back to Split.
In that case, I’d ask (the bus driver perhaps) if the return bus from Hvar to SG goes all the way to the ferry port or if you need to change buses, though without luggage you could probably walk.
Im always thinking of themes for travel. Hitting the oldest cities in Europe might be a good theme. Here is a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_continuously_inhabited_cities. Hmmmmmm.
And when you do searches for Stari Grad information be certain to put a country name, sometimes you will need more, the main city name maybe, as Stari Grad is simply Slavic for Old Town and there are dozens of places called Stari Grad in the Slavic world. My favorite is in Montenegro.
