Has anyone taken the bus from Dubrovnik city center to Medjugorje? If so, how was it? I read a bad review, so I'm hoping to hear some better ones. My husband wants to spend several nights in Medjugorje, so a day trip is not an option for us. We don't want to bother with a rental car since that's a hassle for such a short trip into BiH. If the bus is not a pleasant option, what would it cost to get a private transfer to Medjugorje? Thanks for any feedback.
We have NOT taken this bus, nor any others in Croatia, but -this fall we have a trip in Croatia, and we have already purchased bus tickets to go from Dubrovnik to Split and a few days later from Split to Zagreb though the Bus Croatia system. We did not see any issues in doing this, reviews seem fine (other than some folks expecting red-carpet treatment), and prices are very reasonable. This seems the easiest way to get around here. Disclosure - we have taken long distance buses in Europe also, and again, it's the most effective and reasonable transportation option where there are no high-speed trains. How bad can a under 4 hours on a bus be?
I haven't been to Medjuhorje either, but I have taken quite a few buses in Croatia and I found them fine. The one issue you may have is that the bus will make a toilet/smoke stop after 2 hours or so, but you probably won't understand the driver's announcement. Look for a young fellow traveler. Many of them speak English quite well and will be able to tell you whether the bus has actually stopped for a break and, if so, for how long. If all else fails, try playing charades with the bus driver.
The breaks are most often at roadside cafes, which have more and better restrooms than the average bus station and shockingly normal prices for packaged snacks..
There are at least two buses daily, early morning and evening, same on way back. It is pleasant journey with stops on the way, just note that one bus may take one hour longer than the other. The cheapest way to get ticket is in bus station when you arrive to town.
