On a separate thread someone suggested a visit to The Montenegro Blue Cave instead of taking a tour to the Blue Cave from Split. We do plan to rent a car in Dubrovnik and take it to tour the Bay of Kotor for a day. Is it possible/practical to try to visit the blue cave on the Lustica Peninsula that same day? If so, what would be the best way to do that? We wouldn't be interested in a lengthy tour so would want to drive to the nearest point.
You seem really interested in seeing a Blue Cave. I just want to caution you that Blue Caves are most spectacular on a sunny day. If you enter one on a cloudy or overcast day, they can be disappointing.
So if you are making a day trip to Montenegro with the Blue Cave as a goal, make sure you have optional activities planned in case it's a cloudy day.
Thanks, Charlene, for your words of caution. We were planning a day trip to Kotor, so if it's not sunny we just won't do it. And Doug, thanks too for all the helpful info.
I'll add that a huge advantage of getting to one of the Blue Caves is that you can then skip the tedious, sea-sickening, and time-consuming Blue Grotto when you visit Capri.
We ended up using Montenegro Wildboat for this tour. Marko was extremely flexible and patient with my many questions, and we would heartily recommend him. If anyone is interested, his contact info follows:
