I am hoping to maximize my time in Croatia, leaving Budapest In early May and flying from Dubrovnik to Zagreb a week later. I know I can't do it all but would love to.

Looks like the are several direct buses a day (FlixBus) which would be the cheapest way. The train would be more comfortable but a tad longer. I don't think there are any direct flights.
