We're planning a trip for September 2026. One person is particularly sensitive to seasickness on open water. Do any car ferry routes to the islands around Split keep you in sight of land for the whole trip? We wouldn't go in bad weather.
We probably won't have a car, but some travelers say the car ferries are a steadier ride than the fast catamarans.
There are not nearly as many car ferries is the problem.
In my four trips, the only time I ever felt sick was on a long lurching car ferry ride —I’d go for a catamaran. Just pick a short route like to Hvar or Brac.
See Jadrolinja website for schedules of car ferries
We took the catamaran from split to korčula with a friend who gets seasick. She sat inside, near the center and was fine. She closed her eyes for most of the ride.
You pass islands or small land masses but there might be some times when you only see the sea. Remember it is not an open ocean, it’s the sea, which I always find calmer.
I really dislike the car ferry but you can book a seat inside and never see any water. The seats are similar to airplane seats. You have to pay extra for them. On a catamaran there are no extra charges. We took the car ferry many times when it was the only choice.
Thanks, that's very helpful
