We are 6 Canadian women heading May 19th to Dubrovnik for 4+ days, prior to a week cruise up the coast from Dubrovnik to Split; then finishing trip with 4+ days in Llubljana - some day tripping included from both cities.
Would like advice on best city walking tours to book in both cities, as well as best guides to contact perhaps for a private tour. Thank you!
Recommendations of a few restaurants in both cities would also be appreciated!
P.S. Recommendation of a contact for a private transfer from Llubljana to Zagreb airport when we leave?
I found a very good guide and a very good person, in Dubrovnik. Nera Pavlovic, [email protected] +385 98 183 4365 (whatsapp or phone)
I may be Cinderella (late to the ball) but wanted to let you know our foursome just yesterday had a great walking tour with Pera Ugarkovikc. He responds quickly to emails, at [email protected]. he is knowledgeable, has a good sense of humor, seems to know everyone in town, and the grilled fish place he recommended was delish and filled with local families.
Did either of these companies have websites? What did they cost?
The one i listed, no.
Another really, really excellent guide company in the region is Dijana Krkotic, Doclea Travel, +382 69 277 749 (whatsapp), [email protected], www.docleatravel.com. She sets up well coordinated and planed trips to Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. I used her a few times, the last time a week ago. Search the forum for a number of good references on her.
Nera does have a linkedin page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nera-pavlovic-b2186873/ She is a very good guide for Dubrovnik. For larger projects involving trips around the region, hotels, transportation, etc. (just planning or turn key tours) I think Dijana is impossible to beat.
What was the restorant with grill named please, filled "with local families"? Tnx
Thank you local.du cause the mission of the forum is to spread info. In 3 trips totaling 9 days i never had a great meal in Dubrovnik, so if someone knows of a place, spill it!. We'll i did find a place with pretty fair Bosnian Cevapi.
I also recommend Nera Pavlovic. +385 98 183 4365 on whatsapp. She's engaging, knows history from the slavs to present, shared her personal experience of living through the war, and continues to research aspects of the city she is a wonderful, responsive, engaging, and a compelling voice for her city.
If you will be in Llubijana on a Friday, be sure to go to the Open Kitchen near the market for dinner.
annmariedilucia, I am glad she worked out for you. Nera was the best guide experience i have had anywhere in Europe.
Let me echo the praise for Nera Pavlovic (+385 98 183 4365). My husband and I enjoyed every minute of our two hours with Nera today. She’s passionate about Dubrovnik’s history and future and her manner of conveying information is educational, lighthearted, and personal. Our son, who opted out of the tour has heard “Nera also told us…” all day long…. That’ll teach him!
@Poppi, could you tell more about Open Kitchen? It looks very interesting. We arrive Llubljana around 11am on a Friday in Sept after a long day of travel and we will likely be very tired. I was thinking maybe we head right there for lunch, but might it make for a better dinner? We only have 2 dinners in Llubljana so I want to be careful what we use them on.
As far as Nera, any idea what the approximate cost is? We are only 2 of us, so hiring her for a few hours might be a bit expensive per person.
Call or write is the only way to answer that. Things are getting more expensive the world over. My fishing guide in Bosnia just informed me that this year would quite a bit more than last year. But Dubrovnik is one of those places where a guide is worth the investment.
