best beaches in dubrovnik

What are some of the best beaches in Dubrovnik? Also do you need water shoes (like in Hawaii you need them), or can you get away without.

We already plan to go to Lokrum and Lopud islands during our stay, but have 1 extra open day we would like to go to a beach without having to take a ferry.

thank you

We just walk out of the Ploce Gate, down the street to Banje Beach. We like to go early, 7:00 am, to avoid crowds. I use water shoes, those pebbles really hurt, but you will notice the locals don't. If I don't have shoes with me, we swim off the pier around the corner from the aquarium.

We went to St. Jacob beach which is recommended by RS, it was nice because it seemed less crowded compared to the other beaches. We took one of the small boats from the old port. It was about 15$ each way for the both of us which included a tour around lokrum island and then they picked us at a time we requested, if you go directly there it’s a nice 15 minute boat ride. You can also walk to this beach but I think it’s a 25 minute walk from the old town. We didn’t use water shoes, we used our Sandels up to the edge of the water then gingerly walked in the water and then it was easier to walk. But it would be more comfortable if you had water shoes.

We were at Lokrum yesterday. I saw many of the little stinging creatures lurking in the water. I had water shoes, my husband didn't. He wished he had. He was very careful and was not stung, thankfully.

They are sea urchins. At the Dead Sea there is a sign warning swimmers of them but they call them something different.
