We're heading to Croatia in the next few weeks and I'm wondering about attire for guys. Are nice short OK in tourist areas in Dalmatia (islands as well as Split and Dubrovnik). I'm assuming that they're OK during the day, but are they also ok for dinner out at night? We're talking average restaurants, nothing very fancy. Would nice jeans be ok? Tops would be a combination of nice t-shirts and camp shirts/polos.
Croatian men live in track pants, sweat pants and athletic shorts, so I'm sure you'll feel fine whatever you wear. Might want to even take it down a notch.
On the islands or when near a beach, just about anything goes, and during the day in Split and Dubrovnik, with all the tourists, shorts would be fine.
As for dinner, no one will throw you out, but I think you will see more pants and a polo or button up shirt in the evening, jeans would be fine.
Just returned and Paul's advice is spot on.
