I am going to Croatia on a tour this April. I have a "free day" in Opitija. I am wondering if I should take a day tour of the Istrian Penisula or Plitvice Lakes?? Does anyone have a strong recommendation either way? Is April often too early (cold and not "greened up yet" ) for Plitvice?? Thanks for any advice!
Hi, i suggest you to visit National Park Plitvice, because they are unique in every seasonal. :) National Park is around 200 km far away from Opatija and Istria is much closer. If you decide to visit Istria, I suggest you to visit Motovun and Grožnjan (Grisignana).
How will you be getting around?
I would recommend renting a car for the day, whichever direction you decide to go. There are a couple of car rental places directly in Opatija, including a Sixt agent.
Personally, having visited both, I would recommend Plitvice. April will be fine.
Does your tour not include a visit to the Plitvice National Park??? If not, it should at least be offered as an optional excursion... if so, why would you not do it this way?
