Advice sought on our booked trip to Dubronik, Hvar and Split

Hi all,
We have booked a trip to Croatia. Me, wife, young adult daughter
3 days Dubronik (arrive the day before)
3 days Hvar
2.5 days split - fly to Istanbul

questions:
1) best way to get from Dubronik to Hvar? (ferry which in once a day or another method, ie bus and then short ferry) Book in advance or play it by ear?
2) anything special to do in Hvar? do we need a car or scooters? any recommendations for dining? suggestions on possibly sailing for a day with a rented boat and a captain
3) Best way to get from Hvar to Split?
If we can adjust our departure from Hvar to Split, is it better too adjust so we get add time in Split ? (guidebooks feel 2 days is enough)
4) Suggestions on dining and best of Split. Staying in Town recommended?
Any and all suggestions are welcome as any things to worry about.

This is between May 24 and June 1
We like the usual things, good food, art, beaches, shopping and culture.
Thank you

  1. Your only option is to take the daily afternoon Krilo catamaran to Hvar town. You will need to buy tickets in advance online.

  2. I always stay in Stari Grad, which is far quieter than Hvar town, but I haven’t been as early as May, so the party season probably won’t have started. I always hire a car in Split and keep it for the entire 3 weeks I spend on Hvar, so I haven’t used the buses to explore the island.

In Hvar town, you can walk up to the fort. Stari Grad, Jelsa and Vrboska are worth exploring, as are some of the beaches here. I like Soline beach.

The lavender is usually harvested in late June, so you will be early for that.

  1. You can take the Krilo or Jadrolinija catamarans from Hvar town to Split. Split can be seen in a day and if you have time, allow half a day for nearby Trogir. I haven’t stayed in Split, but would stay near the Riva (port).

The main thing to worry about is if the catamarans are cancelled due to bad weather, which happened for a couple of days when I was there in September. From Hvar, you could take the ferry from Stari Grad to Split, which is unlikely to be cancelled, as they run in all weathers.
