After a planned hiking trip near Split and on the islands of Brac and Hvar, need some suggestions for 2 more days before flying to Germany. Avid hikers and love history, but not into partying or big cities. Korkula or Trogir?
Since you'll already be so close to Trogir, it would be a shame to skip it. If you also have time for Korcula, then I would recommend it as well. Or even Mljet, which is a park on its own island. If you have only time for one, Trogir makes the most logistical sense. You can also hike up Marjan Hill in Split, which is nice.
I would also echo spending time on Korcula. We spent two nights and enjoyed "quiet time" after Split and Hvar. Lovely walkable island. Unpretentious and charming. The cuisine and views are magical at night. This could be a perfect place to end your journey! It was our favorite island.
Korcula is quite a ways from Split airport, which I'm guessing is your departure airport for Germany. I would want to be reasonably close to the airport the night before your flight and I wouldn't go to Korcula for just 1 night, so Trogir wins on that basis. Even if your flight is later in the day and a ferry/catamaran from Korcula could theoretically get you to Split with time to spare, rough seas could upset your plans.
Sibenik and nearby Krka National park - about an hour north of Split as I recall. Sibenik is a lovely town.
Thanks for the advice. This will be at the end of September. Since we have 2 days and 3 nights, do we need to make these decisions ahead of time, or is it past peak season enough to decide at the last minute?
