Female solo traveler, so need a safe haven. Prefer something with very few stairs, if that's even possible. Limited budget - say $70 Cdn per ngt max. Want to be in Old Town or just barely outside of Old Town - no more than 5-10 mins max. No hostels unless there are private rooms. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Also, as I'm travelling in May/2016 & it's not peak season (I hope), should I pre-book all of my accommodation or just wing it once there. I'm not generally in favour of this, as you spend your time looking for a place instead of enjoying where you are, but..

Even in May, I would pre-book if you're not going to stay in hostels. It's shoulder season, so the sobes/hotels will fill up, especially close to old town.

We absolutely LOVED The Azur Palace. Many rooms on the ground floor and nothing about first. Service and breakfast, as well as location, top notch. I would contact them directly and not use the booking engine on their website. They told us "Next time send an email." I think they will be fair on rates. info@azurpalace.com
EDIT: This is in Split. Wish we'd stayed longer there and less time in Dubrovnik.
