A good Cave to Explore

I'm traveling to Croatia starting in Rovinj and then heading to Plitvice Lake, then making our way down the coast to Split, the islands, and Durborvink. I'm traveling with my teen son, who is interested in exploring a cave and I know there are several.

On our drive to Plitvice Lake from Rovinj, I was thinking about going to Lokvarka cave, would that be too far out of the way, or is there something closer that may be a good option? Thanks in advance!

Lokvarka cave is closer to Rovinj than Plitvice but it is still rather far (1h 30min - 3h 30min drive). A good option could be Baraćeve caves at Plitvice or Feštinsko kraljevstvo cave near Rovinj (35min drive).

I don't know Lokvarka cave, but it should be doable on the driving day from Rovinj to Plitvice.

A friend of mine did recommend Pazin cave (Pazinska jama), about 40min drive from Rovinj. It's more about adventure.

We are in Croatia right now but did not visit Pazin cave, because we visited Skocjan cave already on our driving day from Slovenia to Pula. That was really impressive.

A couple of years ago, we did drive from Plitvice lakes to Zadar and did a short detour to visit cave park Grabovaca and visited Samograd cave. It was early June and beside us (family of 4) there has been only another couple for the guided tour. Thus it was a very personal tour with a lot of time for fotos and questions. I enjoyed it a lot.

If you have some more time the Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" Smiljan is not far away.
