9 night cruise Venice to Croatia port excursions recommendations (ports listed below)

Hello travelers. Just looking for some clarity and recommendations on excursions to take during our cruise. Our stops are Venice, Opatija, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor/Montenegro, Sibenik, Hvar, Pula, Venice. I’ve heard a lot about Plitvice and Krka Parks and we love hiking and waterfalls and would like to visit one. We have from 8 am to at least 6 pm at the ports and some ports we have until 8 pm (Zadar) or unril10 pm (Split, Dubrovnik, Sibenik), except Kotor which is 9:30 to 6 pm. Does anyone have a recommendation on from which port would be best to visit one of the parks? And any other recommendations for any of our stops would be very welcomed. Thanks so much in advance. Donna

Hi Donna, we did a similar cruise to this area a few weeks ago. The excursion to Krka Waterfalls & Town of Skradi was offered from several ports. We chose the one from Sibenik because there was less driving time. We did the included walking/bus tours in Split and Dubrovnik. In Montenegro, we did an excursion to Lovcen National Park. Beautiful scenery. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thank you. It is good to know the travel time is less from Sibenik. Thats exactly what I was wondering. Were you on Azamara Quest?

In Opatija, you might just want to walk along the lungomare, but if you get more ambitious, Ucka park is not far away.
Perhaps you can visit Plitvice from Zadar and Krka from Sibenik, but I don't know a lot about timing issues for cruise stops.
In Kotor, there is a nice walk up above the town with nice views.

It’s not necessary to visit both parks. Krka is closer to the coast.
The problem for me with going to a park is that you miss the city itself. If you only have one day in Šibenik or Zadar or Split, why use your entire day outside of the city. The cities you are stopping in are all interesting, especially Split.

Just wondering, does the ship stop in Opatija with a tender or in Rijeka saying it is Opatija? (like saying the stop is Pisa but it is really Livorno with a bus ride to Pisa).

Did a similar cruise with some of the same ports. In Split we just did a walk about and had a great lunch. In Dubrovink be sure and walk the wall around the town. Very interesting.

In Kotor, be advised:

We took an excursion through the cruise line that took the P1 road from Kotar to the towns of Njegusi and Cetinje. The views of the town and bay are super spectacular. But, it goes up the side of a mountain and has about 25 numbered 180 degree switchback turns and at least 75 other sharp turns. There's a rock wall on one side and nothing on the other. But, large tour buses do travel this road. If anyone in your party is prone to motion sickness or has a problem with heights, you might want to avoid this tour. Although it's probably a rare occurrenc, we saw several folks throwing up on the side of the road. Just food for thought. You can go to bing.com, use the map feature, and see aerial views of the road. Googlemaps.com. will also allow you can check it out. On 12 Mar. 2017 there was a thread on this forum titled "Greece Montenegro Croatia". One person included a link to a good map that shows the road. Another person had a link to a video made along parts of the road.
