5 nights in Dubrovnik/2 couples: Sobe or vrbo?

We are two married couples with 5 nights in Dubrovnik,
Should we consider vrbo along with Rick Steves' Sobe recommendations?

With a vrbo are we more on-our-own and does that matter?
We can gain a kitchen, washing machine, private terrace,
all for about $200/night but just outside the Old Town.

Seems like it might be worth having our own sunset spot,
breakfast in, the equivalent of two Sobe rooms plus living space.

Are there precautions we should know about when renting a vrbo in Dubrovnik?

I'll leave the vrbo topic to those with more experience. Rick does list some apartments among his choices. With five nights there, you might like being outside the Old Town, if they say it's quieter.
