We are Americans in our early 70's and enjoy nature and easy walks. We used hike a lot, but our knees and feet complain a lot now :) We have traveled extensively: Italy, Greece, UK, Spain, France, Turkey, Israel, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, New Zealand, Patagonia, Botswana. We do like some history and beautiful architecture. Not into wine/vineyards. Not interested in swimming, because it's too cold that time of year. Here's my itinerary for May 2025, and would love your input. I've got 1 extra night I have not scheduled yet. I'm trying to decide if I need more time in one of these places. It's a long drive from Korcula to Plitvice; should I add another night on Korcula or Lake Bled?
3 nights Dubrovnik
2 nights Korcula
2 nights Plitvice
3 nights Rovinj
3 nights Bovec
2 nights Lake Bled
3 nights Logarska Dolina
2 nights Ljubljana
I would add the night in Korcula, rather than Lake Bled. We spent three nights there, in a gorgeous apartment overlooking the harbor and loved every minute of our stay. Do you plan to have a rental car; use public transportation or hire private drivers?
I would actually flex that day to Ljubljana. It’s an extremely pleasant city, and is a good place to wind this all down. I wouldn’t sign up for more days on the coast if you’re not swimming. You’re also doing a lot of “outdoor Slovenia” and three nights in Bled would be too many imo. So, Ljubljana makes a good third candidate.
The only small question I would have is committing 2 nights to Plitvice. It is a gorgeous place, but certainly not what I would call easy walking.
Edit: with your interests in history and architecture, you might enjoy Zadar and/or a day in Istria for Pula.
