In late September we are planning to go from Split to Korcula for 2 nights. We are getting to Split via car. From Korcula we'll be traveling to Dubrovnik. The question is whether we should turn in the car in Split and do the rest via catamaran; or take the car ferry from Split to Vela Luca on Korcula and then the car ferry to Orebec and drive from there to Dubrovnik. Are there things we should do on Korcula that would be easier if we had a car?

I recommend dropping the car in Split. No need for the car after that.

Definitely drop the car in Split. On Korčula you can easily get a bus or bike or taxi.

We did not need a car on Korcula; enjoyed taking the hop-on, hop-off water taxi to different places. We walked to various wineries from the drop off spot in Lumbarda.

Yep, ditch the wheels in Split. The ferries are easy, comfortable, cheap and drops you off right at Korcula old town.
