2 days on Hvar

We spent 3 weeks in Croatia/Slovenia October 2013. Rented a car in Zagreb, drove through Slovenia, down the Croatian coast to Dubrovnik. Loved it! We drove the length of the island to Hvar town after a quick ferry from the mainland. Stayed in Hvar area: RS recommended Ivanka Ivanovic (ivanovic-hvar.com) 3 nights. We heartily endorse Ivanka's apartments also! Great host, good views, and the walk to town always interesting. The area was safe even late night. RS recommended restaurant Alviz had a fantastic pasticada (a stew) as promised. We drove to Stari Grad - shopped, ate & looked around. Glad we stayed in Hvar town. Do check out the square in the evening. We found lots to experience, including the locals, and enjoyed it all.

I stayed in Hvar city for 2 days in late September a few years ago. The summer crowds had died down and the weather was still nice, so it was very enjoyable. It's also where the catamarans arrive and depart, so convenient from that perspective. There have been past postings by people who like Stari Grad, from where the ferries arrive and depart. Hopefully one of those people will see your posting and weigh in.

We stayed in Hvar city in mid-May before it was super crowded and loved it.
