12 Days in Slovenia/Croatia - Itinerary advice

Hi everyone,

We are planning a trip to Slovenia and Croatia in September and I am having trouble figuring out how much we will be able to squeeze in! I have been doing a decent amount of research but I feel like there is a chance we are trying to do too much. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions (too much time in certain places, too little time in others, must-sees that I'm missing, etc.). Below is the tentative itinerary I have mapped out. We will be renting a car for the duration. If someone could help me out with the below itinerary it would be a huge help. I am considering dropping the Rovinj part of it if it is going to be too much, or maybe switching it out with Montenegro's Bay of Kotor? Thanks so much.

Day 1 - Fly in to Ljubljana, drive to Lake Bled

Day 2 - Lake Bled

Day 3 - Drive through Julian Alps back to Ljubjana

Day 4 - Ljubjana

Day 5 - Drive to Rovinj, spend day there

Day 6 - Drive to Plitvice Lakes

Day 7- Plitvice Lakes

Day 8 - Drive to Split, spend day there

Day 9 - Ferry to Hvar, spend day there

Day 10 - Ferry back to Split, drive to Dubrovnik

Day 11 - Dubrovnik or day trip to Mostar

Day 12 - Dubrovnik all day, leave that night

I do think that your itinerary is too much for this trip.

I'd stay in Ljubljana and day trip to Lake Bled and the Julian Alps.

Then, drop Rovinj--it's too much driving to spend just one night. I'd also delete Hvar unless you can arrange your itinerary to spend at least a couple of night there (if you combine Ljubljana and Lake Bled take a day from there). One night is enough for Plitvice Lakes.

I'd also delete Mostar.

A more relaxed itinerary would look like this:

Ljubljana with day trips--4 nights

Plitvice Lakes-1 night

Split--2 nights

Hvar--2 nights

Dubrovnik--2 nights
