12 days in Croatia and Slovenia

We are headed to Croatia and Slovenia this summer with a 5 year old. I dont want it to be very rushed with a kid. Our itinerary is as below . WE are planning to hire a Zagreb till Dubrovonik - any suggestions on where we could reduce a couple of days? Also, should we hire a car or use public transport? Is 3 days in Dubrovnik too much if we do not plan any day trips to bosnia et al.

Day 1 Leave for Mumbai
Day 2 Day 1 - spend 1 night in Zagreb in cosy B&B
Day 3 Zagreb
Day 4 Drive to Slovenia(2.5 hours) or take a train(2 hour 20 minutes) 15 Euros - Ljubljana
Day 5 Lake Bled
Day 6 Lake Bled
Day 7 Drive to Plitvice National Park
Day 8 Plitvice National Park
Day 9 Drive to Trogit/Split
Day 10 Split to Hvar(Ferry)
Day 11 Hvar
Day 12 Hvar to Dubrovonik
Day 13 Dubrovonik
Day 14 Dubrovonik

Eight locations n 2 weeks is too many changes, especially with a 5 year old.

I would be tempted to drop Slovenia and spend quality time in Croatia. Driving is more complicated in Slovenia as you need a vignette.

A day to get over jetlag before you hire a car is a good idea. Head to Plitvice after Zagreb and spend the night before you enter the park there, to get an early start. The following day, you could see Krka national park and drive to Split. Have a full day in Split and see nearby Trogir.

You could return the car on arrival in Split or you could keep hold of it until you get to Dubrovnik. Take the ferry to Stari Grad on Hvar and stay here or in Jelsa for 3 nights. If driving, drive the length of the island and take the Sucuraj to Drvenik car ferry. If not driving, take the morning Krilo catamaran to Dubrovnik.

You could stay somewhere such as Cavtat, which wouldn't be as busy as Dubrovnik centre. Two days there is fine, although if you need to cut a day, this is possible.
