Stay in Burgas or continue to Varna?

I'm planning a (spontaneous) trip to the Balkans in August. I've already booked a flight from Helsinki to Burgas.

I've read a lot of tourist guides of Bulgaria, but pretty much none of them mentions Burgas as worth visiting. So I'm thinking if there's anything to see? The flight will arrive around 8PM of the local time, so should I just catch a bus to Varna, sleep through the night and head to Varna through Nesebar in the morning or stay in Burgas for a day? How much dies Burgas offer other than beaches? Beaches are nice, but I'm the type of person who lays sunbathing for hours.

Looking forward to your replies!

I used Burgas as a base for visiting Nesebar and Sozopol, both of which I liked, though they are very touristy. I didn't find much of interest in Burgas, but there could be good stuff that I missed. Have you checked TripAdbisor? I didn't have any extra time in town, so I didn't do that.

How long are you going to be in Bulgaria? Burgas is an OK city and as someone else pointed out, it's a good base for visiting Sozopol and possibly Nessebur but it's definitely not the most interesting city in Bulgaria.

There is way more to see and do away from the Black See. I regularly write about destinations in Bulgaria here: http://www.flyingraconteur.com/blog/
