I've just discovered that St. George Day is a National Holiday in Bulgaria. We have plans to hire a driver from Veliko Tarnovo to the Ruse bus station on that day - then, to take a bus to Bucharest (we've already purchased bus tickets to Bucharest).
Has anyone experienced St. George Day? Is it a holiday that we'd want to experience or not such a big event?
We'd prefer to stick with our original plan but if it's worth making some itinerary changes, we might consider it.

As an update, I did get a response to this question on Trip Advisor. Saint George Day in Veliko Tarnovo "will be a big holiday with a bigger show of the sounds and lights about the Tzarevets fortress." We're not sure our plans can be adjusted to take part in the festivities but if anyone is in Bulgaria during that time, it might be fun!
Thank you for reporting back on this! It turns out I'll be in Bulgaria after the holiday, but I was glad to know about it so that I wouldn't miss out if I would have been there.
