Hello,
I am trying to find the best way to get to Bucharest after the RS Bulgaria tour ending Oct. 3 in Sofia. We do not want to rent a car, nor do we want to take an overnight bus. I am struggling to find current train or bus information. Can I book somewhere online, or is it too early to do so? Should I just wait until we get to Sofia?
If anyone has done this, or someone has good info, I’d appreciate the help.

There is a daily direct train from Sofia to Bucharest until early October. After that one change is needed. Tickets are not sold online, buy them at the station in Sofia. https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Sofia.htm#Sofia_to_Bucharest
But, best is very subjective. It's a 10 hour train trip. Tarom also has flights between the cities.
Balkan trains sometimes leave a lot to be desired, and the risk of schedule-wrecking problems increases (due to infrequency of international trains in that area) when there's a border crossing involved. The vast majority of travelers would probably be much happier flying. That said, I took a train from Bucharest to Veliko Tarnovo in 2015, and I survived.
The airports in Sofia and in Bucharest are both pretty fair. I would fly. Tarom non-stop starts at $183. I have flown them a few times. Pretty okay airline. Takes and hour and five minutes.
Thanks all. I appreciate you taking the time. I’d rather train than fly, but the 10 hour train ride is daunting. All the flights I’ve seen get into Bucharest late evening. It’s a conundrum.
