Sofia day trip?

Received my confirmation for the Bulgaria in 12 Days tour. Early September 2022. Debating how many nights I might book in Sofia before the RS tour begins. One night or two. Any suggestions on a day trip from Sofia to a site not visited on the tour? I won’t have a car, so anything distant would be some type of tour/excursion. Or any “must see” site in Sofia that is not on the tour, or something that might warrant more time than given on the tour?

Restaurant suggestions?

Traveling solo.

Thanks!

We’re also booked on Best of Bulgaria in September. The itinerary sent does list a few places the tour doesn’t go but I have to get out and buy a guidebook. We are also trying to figure out the days before, maybe 3? Or maybe 3 nights since the first day is always used to get over jetlag. We probably won’t stay afterwards cause we kinda feel after its over, its over. Also, we will probably go somewhere else, haven’t decided yet.

I am also going at the start of September I have one night booked a this point but am thinking that I may book another day or two. Still in the process of deciding. Not sure what I will see on the extra days, but as Barbara said the first one is usually jet leg.

If you have time either before or during the tour, the Archeological Museum in Sofia is well worth a visit. Also if you go to lyubatours.com and click on "we explore" tab you can see a list of day tours that they offer in/from Sofia that may be of interest before your tour starts. I went on this RS tour 2 years ago and loved it - it is a very interesting, less-visited corner of Europe with amazing history.
