We will be spending the month of September 2019 in Bulgaria and would appreciate recommendations on experiencing Roma culture while in the country.

While I can't reply to your specific question, it did make me think of an interesting book on Roma culture and history - Bury Me Standing by Isabel Fonseca. It has been a few years since I read it but I am almost certain at least part of it involves reporting from Bulgaria.

Go to varna, you will a lot of Roma remains there. When you go there. Ask for the roman terms
