If you haven't seen it already (it aired last night on Seattle's PBS station), keep an eye out for the new Bulgaria episode. It features Stefan and some of the wonderful artisans from Veliko Tarnovo: Todor the silversmith, Rumi (sp?) the woodcarver, and Nina the potter with her son Demeter. The show really made me want to go back to Bulgaria and explore some more!
Thanks for the news! I'd be interested in seeing it...but I haven't found it anywhere online. I guess I'll have to wait until my local PBS station first broadcasts it. I think he made a first show back in 2004. I wonder if much has changed in some of the rural areas of Bulgaria - my guess is not too much.
Lucky you, up there in Seattle, Teresa! I see the RS Bulgaria episode will air on KQET in San Francisco on Sunday, November 13, at 3:30 pm. My DVR is already set, thanks to your notice. I also got a message from Stefan that later this month the US Ambassador to Bulgaria will host a screening and reception for 150 at the Embassy. As for Stefan, I think a star is being born, or at least discovered!
@ Teresa- thanks for the heads up!
@ Agnes - the episode on Rick in Bulgaria will soon be S treaming on PBS.org
@ Larry - Stefan is an amazing fellow and a rock star amongst tour guides. We should also remember that Stefan is the protege of Lyuba Boyanin who brought Bulgaria's historical and cultural treasures to the attention travelers world wide.
Omigosh, Larry, how amazing for Stefan! I hope he takes a little video on the night and posts it.
You can also stream the new shows from https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/video/tv-show/season-9, but only the first three are posted as of today.
The new Bulgaria episode is now available to watch on RS website. See it using Laura's link above.
Excellent! Brings so many memories back to life, not only places but individual people too!
I hope the Romania episode is up as well...anyone on this thread been to Romania?
I was in Romania in September 2015. Very interesting country.
We just watched the new episode on Bulgaria from Rick's 2017-2018 season, a gift sent from Rick's company to the Tour alumni. Stefan is definitely becoming rock star among tour guides!
