Places to visit

Dear Friends,

I will be visiting Sofia in the month of October this year. I have 2 days in hand. Tell me the main places to visit in and around Sofia. Further, can you tell me how to reach Ljubljana from Sofia by train in the month of October?

Regards

Rick

A short day trip from Sofia

Rila Monastery - I took an optional tour to this place when I was in Sofia .
It is a lovely ride there and back and the Monastery is very interesting. Found that you
can also rent rooms to stay there.

Copy/paste from an earlier post:

Koprivhstitsa, a lovely little village 100km east of Sophia, don´t expect luxury hotels but there are cheap places (formost B&B´s) with character to stay. Worth spending a night. Train is slow so it need a few hours to get there from Sophia. Have a look in a Lonely Planet guide for more info.

The Bulgarian National Historical Museum (if I remember well better known as “Rezidentsia Boyana”) 10km south-west of Sophia is certainly worth a visit. I used a taxi to get there.

If I remember well (visit 2007) a good place in Sophia for a typical Bulgarian dinner and life music is “Pri Yafata” next to the Thracia Hotel.

Have you used the "Search" function at the top of most pages on RS web site? I was in Sofia this last Friday 7/3 after completing a RS Bulgaria tour. You might also click thru to the RS Tours and go to Bulgaria in 14 Days and check outs its itinerary to see what we did in our 3 days in Sofia.
