Starting planning to travel that starts and ends in Greece with a car rental. The question is whether to travel to Bulgaria followed by North Macedonia then Albania and back to Greece. Or the other way around going from Greece to Albania etc. ?
Timeline will be Mid May through August.

I have traveled to those countries, but not by car. I don't know of any reason why one way would be better than the other, unless closing days of museums or historic sites are critical to your plans.
However, you need to be sure your rental-car company will allow you to take the car into Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Albania. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a problem.
