Just announced: Bulgaria will be switching its currency to the Euro, effective January 1, 2026. This will make Bulgaria the 21st country in the “Eurozone.” After that, any lev or stotinki you may have lying around will be just souvenirs.
Many of the citizens of Bulgaria currently aren’t happy about the change, but the government has been working on getting the Euro established there for some time. This is in addition to Bulgaria joining the Schengen agreement last year, and already being part of the EU.
