Wise

I’ve just had the worst experience with the British fund transfer company known as Wise. A property in France requested a deposit be made through the Wise app. I did that. Unfortunately Wise stopped doing transfers to the property. Getting the money back from Wise is proving monumental. Their methods do not give me any hope that getting the money back will be safe and secure. For security, I am getting a new credit card number. I have lodged a complaint with the credit card company. Wise is ANYTHING but convivial.

Thanks for letting us know your experience. I know some use the Wise debit type card but I didn't know they were also used to transfer funds.

Were there issues with the property that Wise stopped doing transfers? Or did they not clarify for you. And I'm just being nosy here....

I'm curious too why Wise stopped doing transfers to the property. This is the first negative thing I've heard about Wise, but I also didn't know they did transfers.

Wise was originally built on money transfers, not debit cards.

Did Wise not give you a reason as to why the money was not transferred? Or did you receive a message from the property owner that he/she has not received payment?

Not Wise related, but my credit card company retrieved money for me a couple of times, for services/products which were not provided. You have so many days (30/60?) to provide the details.

I used Wise to transfer money to pay for my Romanian tour earlier this year and it worked very well. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the money went through and the relatively low cost of the fee.

This surprises me

As others have noted, Wise originally began as a money transfer company (originally it was called TransferWise). It is a highly reputable outfit, and I for one have never had a problem with them. We use them quite extensively for our UK business (inbound transactions and both UK and international outbound transfers) and have never had a problem. I'd be curious to know exactly what issues you've had getting your money back.

I’ve used Wise to send and receive funds by wire and bank transfer. I’ve never had a problem with them including canceling a transfer after I sent it. Was this transaction set up by transferring money from a credit card to Wise? I don’t understand the mechanics of your transfer. Why do you feel your Credit card is compromised? A lot of unanswered questions here.

Yes, what Philip said. Your information is confusing. When I paid using Wise, I had the money transferred directly from my checking account and sent directly to the tour guide. So I'm not sure what your credit card has to do with this.

I think you can have money sent from a credit card but it's much more expensive and you're probably going to have to pay a cash advance fee, which is even pricier. I'm not sure why you would want to do that.

It would be helpful if you would give us more information on this.

A lot of overseas travelers and residents use Wise for transfers, automatic payments, and debit. The only transfers we know of are from banks to the WiSE bank. If you want WISE to reimburse to your credit card, it becomes impossible if the card has been deactivated and then the real problems begin.

So if you have money in a WISE account now, ask them to issue you a debit card for the account and use it until the balance hits Zero.

Or, were you scammed by a website pretending to be WISE?

Wise stopped doing transfers to the property.

Has WISE given you an explanation why this is?

This suggests WISE has offered to return your funds, but you have an issue about the method. True?

For those who have queried about credit card involvement, it does appear to be a way to fund a transfer.

Pay in USD with your debit card or credit card, or send the money from your online banking.

OP didn't ask a question, but definitely created some in her post. Not knowing the specifics makes it hard to make use of her 'warning' about WISE.
