If you search the term “passport renewal” on Google, you will likely see 2 or 3 sponsored results purporting to offer online passport renewal at the top of the list. But online renewal is no longer available—-it has been “paused” allow them to reduce the backlog, and they are no longer accepting online applications. Yet these commercial services do not mention that. Instead, they ask for all the information, and then fill out the regular DS-82 form you could do yourself, and will mail it in. I didn’t see what they charge for their service, as I knew not to use this, but I suspect some people might be misled.
Use only the official website to determine how to renew your passport, get the form there, and fill it out yourself in black ink.

They say the current renewal time it 10-13 weeks, or 7-9 weeks with expedited service ($60 extra).
