That was an interesting article. I'll be curious to see how it works. I'm also wondering if they will charge an Airbnb service fee when they list hotels, like they do now (although that might be the owners that do that).
The Japanese Panama hotel in Seattle has been on Air BnB for quite a while, and they do add a service fee (quite a hefty one).
Given my side interests in the Japanese both in Seattle and Yakima, it started out as a good idea for a night or two until I found out about Air BnB's involvement - a huge switch off, especially with the service fee.
Different reasons for the interest in the two cities.
I read elsewhere that Airbnb is also getting into car rental. A quote said they are looking at being the “Amazon of services.” So … in a box, delivered to your door?

Or in my case, delivered to your garage or sometimes next to the garbage cans because they can't be bothered to make it all the way up to the house. 😂
your garage or sometimes next to the garbage cans
I’m in that same situation, Mardee, although the boxes usually make it to the porch. Imagine if an Airbnb/Amazon collaboration would result in getting lodging in a garage, or surrounded by garbage cans. Breakfast on-site in the morning probably wouldn’t be ideal.
Sounds like they are expanding to a "Booking.com" business model. Given the pressures in many areas against the "AirBnB" and anti-tourism measures, their market probably has peaked a bit, so look to other sources of revenue.
