Medjet discount

AARP reminded me and I'm now reminding you, you can save "up to 20%" on a Medjet plan if you mention AARP.

And this is insurance that is well worth having.

I just renewed ours yesterday and fortunately remembered the aarp discount. Also if you collect flyer miles, they are on the shopping portal for United and American. I used United and it was 3X miles.

We always buy trip insurance, mainly for the medical aspect since Tricare does not cover us overseas. Due to this thread, I just bought a Medjet policy for the two of us. This spurred me because my husband is doing an expedition sailing thing to Greenland and while they have insurance and we bought insurance, I just wanted to really make sure my husband was covered with this not being a typical trip.

I just came across this tip. Thanks so much for sharing this information. I was looking into getting an annual policy, and with the AARP discount, I'll save $50. More money for gelato, lol.

I'm an AARP member. What's the approximate cost of an annual policy? I don't want to ask Medjet for a quote as I don't need to be on another email distribution list.

I just checked, and you can go to their website and get lots of info about cost and various plans without having to submit your email address. Just google "medjet assist".

I accidentally renewed our yearly plan without selecting the AARP discount. I didn't notice it for a week or so. When I called them to ask about a refund they immediately returned $100 to my VISA account and were very pleasant about it.

This isn't at all a criticism of those who subscribe to this service, but if I had a medical emergency in Europe I think I'd just as soon be treated in Europe.

Getting treated in Europe is an option if your insurance will pay for it. Most insurance policies that cover you outside the US are limited. And not all treatment is free to everyone in Europe.

Medjet Assist isn't so much about your treatment but about getting you home. It will handle all transportation costs if you are having medical issues anywhere in the world. Not just Europe. Including domestically.

Medjet does not cover doctors' office or hospital medical treatment. It has medical transportation and security consulting components only.

MedJet will also transport you from any hospital that is 150 miles from your home to the hospital of your choice. So for us, that is worth it while traveling here in the U.S. One does have to be hospitalized and stable enough to be transported, no matter which country one is in.
