Can anyone recommend a source for travel insurance that would cover only unexpected medical expenses plus evacuation back to the USA if needed? We don't need the kind that covers everything else (delays, baggage losses, etc). Also, we're looking for the non-reimbursable kind, in which the travel insurance pays the bills in the country where the bills are incurred (we really don't want to have to pay the bills ourselves and then have to fight for reimbursement when we get home). Any advice would be much appreciated - Thanks!!

I have not used this company but they offer some sort of Direct Pay program, assuming you’re using their listed providers. I can’t check how many providers they have without opening a full quote - you might want to check your specific travel plans against a quote from them. https://www.hthtravelinsurance.com/index.cfm
Their evacuation plan is the typical - to the nearest medical facility type offer. For evacuation, I buy MedJet or AirMed. They’ll both take you to the US/home instead of the nearest acceptable facility.

Always read the fine print. As stated above, most "all in one" policies will only med evac you to the nearest hospital. Not sure about AirMed, but MedJet Assist is evacuation coverage only, so you'll need something additional for medical treatment.

I have purchased this type of coverage twice from Allianz which cost about $100 for a two week trip. I didn’t have to use it, but it was reassuring to know I had it. They offer a lot of different options so you can get just what you want.
