Insurance through airline

We are going to Europe in April and I'm about to buy tickets on Lufthansa. I can get insurance at the same time for $137, and at a glance it seems to cover most things. When I look at insuremytrip.com, the cheapest seems to be $180ish. Clearly I am missing something here in the fine print. Any hints? Thanks!

Is that for two passengers?
Make sure the insurance covers evacuation expenses up to $50K.

What is missing is what is covered and the conditions for covering. Medical evacuation insurance generally is a different type of policy.

You absolutely must read the fine print a couple of times. My guess is that you are not comparing apples to apples. I recently was burned on airline insurance on a domestic flight. I assume I could cancel at anytime for just about any reason. When I went to cancelled learned it was only good for a medical emergency back up with doctor statements or death.

"at a glance" isn't good enough. Look closely at the details. What's covered, and WHATS NOT. What kind of insurance do you need? Just cancellation, or do you also need interruption, medical and evacuation? Are you covered for any preexisting medical conditions? What are the exclusions?

for medical evacuation we went with Medjet Assist as they will fly you back to your home of record with trained medical staff with you, as opposed to the nearest US location. This is not insurance in the way an airline offers a policy. It is a company that provides medical evacuation. Most if not all insurance offered by airlines does not do this.

Also check what i says about per-exisiting conditions.

At this point I'm mostly just concerned about being able to cancel should one of us get sick. There are three of us. I normally don't bother, but $2700 is a lot of money.

So, just pay Lufthansa's trip cancellation protection insurance partner the $137 for 3 people.
