Just interested in evacuation insurance alone, I selected that option when pricing same on Squaremouth and Insuremytrip websites and entered zero as to trip costs. Quotes were pretty reasonable and some included extras such as missed connection coverage. Read the fine print carefully!
For years, my husband and I have had a family membership in Divers Alert Network (DAN) for $55 per year, which gives us up to $100,000 evacuation insurance and other travel services, whenever we're more than 50 miles away from home.
We keep it in force all the time, and fortunately have never had to use it, but some friends did and highly recommend their service. You don't have to be a diver to use it.
Check your benefits, my employer supplies it for business and person trips.

Good topic! Recently was looking at quotes before my currect trip and realized i was not sure how MUCH coverage i might need for evac from Europe back to N Idaho! I looked at $100,000, $500,000 and 1M policies and went for $500,000.
The last real time knowledge i had on this topic was arranging short haul evacs from the hospital where I worked to a tertiary care facility and it would run $20,000 several years ago for 90 mile to 300 mile hops.
Just wondering if anyone has gone with MedJet Assist on a longer (1-year or more) family contract. I have friends whose employer (a university) provides that coverage to faculty members who travel frequently -- but they haven't ever had to use it.
Laura B,
Yes, we have a MedJet Assist multi year family plan. As much as we travel over a five year period, the "cost per trip" is not that much. And as is the case with all insurance, we hope we don't need it and fortunately we've never had to be evacuated. As someone once said "the devil is in the details". Most travel insurance policies will evacuate you -- but only to the nearest medical facility that can do what is needed. Read the fine, fine print. But MedJet Assist will evacuate you all the way back to your home area as long as you are more than 150 miles from home. Check out their website and see what you think.
Thanks, TC!
