Delta fares

I just picked up $630 in credits through fare drops. On a trip to Europe in August/Sepember I saved $240 over what I paid when I booked this trip last week. Folks with Delta bookings may want to check for fare drops.

Jules, congrats on your savings! Did you use Google Flights to track fares, or something else?

I just happened to check a trip on Delta.com that I had booked for April to Seattle that I felt at the time of purchase was priced way too high. It had dropped $150, so then I went and looked at our tickets for fall. Honestly, I thought the pricing for the trip to Europe was fine and I was surprised I found it to be a lot lower.

What is the easiest way to obtain the credit? Can it be done online or is a call needed...
Thx

When I saw the price difference, I noticed there were a fair number of seats. I completely canceled the trip and the credit shows up almost immediately. Then, I rebooked. In the past, there was a change option, I didn’t see that today

Jules, I just checked our flight for this fall and called Delta. We now have an ecredit for $499 per person! You saved us a $1,000! Thank you, thank you, thank you!😀😀

Tammy, you outdid me! Show off.

Always great to save some big bucks!

@Jules-lol! We originally paid $1,278pp for flight from Anchorage to Venice and home from Florence to Anchorage. Now, same flight is $778.00! Let’s hope this means Venice will be less crowded!😜. Already plotting how to spend it!

@David, I'm not sure I understand the question. When I'm planning a trip, I use a fare calendar on Delta.com. I've been to Europe so often, that I have a general idea what is "good" and what isn't. I compare flight costs for various airports and dates, and pick a stretch with favorable fares. When I feel like Delta's flights are high, I'll look on google flights to see what other airlines are charging. I usually end up back with Delta, but I've flown other airlines, most often, Icelandair.

I’ve watching Delta fares for a couple of weeks to purchase my September flight, and it finally dropped today for a couple of flights that routed through SeaTac, so I grabbed one of those quickly. I saved about $900 on the Economy Plus level.

I did the same thing. So did my friend and her daughter.

Have a great day!

Wow, Jules, checking MSP>>Nice for September it's $540 for good flights. So this really is a good sale. But it is basic economy.

Thank you Jules!!! I just changed my flights (and even got Comfort+ on the return) and was issued a $429 ecredit. I did it all on the Delta app.

Jules,
Thank you so much for posting about your Delta fare price adjustment. Thanks to your PSA, a lot of us are doing the "Happy Dance."
We had RT tickets to CDG late summer. Husband just called their Reservation # and we each received $339 credit; savings of $678 total.
I know how I'll "spend" my savings. I'll re-read all the purchase suggestions on another thread and buy something special for me!

I get price drop alerts from Google Flights and yesterday the Delta main cabin roundtrip tickets Minneapolis to Florence dropped from $1334.80 each down to $756 each, so I instantly bought our two seats. Feels so great!

Our tickets were multicity, perhaps that's why ours didn't drop as much as others?? I'm into Istanbul and out of Venice. My tickets dropped from $1267 to $1027. And now today, the tickets are back up to $1267.

Jules, as noted in my above post, our ticket was also multi-city. Although you didn’t save as much as others, we all appreciate your post.

Adding that MSP>>Hawaii is also quite low, same price range as Europe flights (and a little bit farther). South America has not had a fare drop.

Can’t complain about our Hawaii tickets. Got them about 3 months ago. MSP to Seattle for 5 days then to Maui for a week, Oahu for 3 days and back home for $850. They didn’t drop in price, but I didn’t expect them to.

Unfortunately for us, our round trip tickets on Delta to Nairobi in August have not budged for months. I will keep looking (and hoping) though.

Looks like most airlines are getting into the act for August to Europe from San Francisco. Nice fares all over the place for basic economy.

They didn’t drop in price, but I didn’t expect them to.

Right now for January basic economy is $600 with nonstop outbound, 3 flights back. Main cabin about $750. I recall this more in the $1200 range, usually.

Tom, my flights start next week. Price was for main cabin. The price is up to $1084

Jules, now Alaska Air is offering OGG at $500 RT main (not basic), stop in SEA each way. Wow, having fun with this bout of cheap fares, across the airline industry. Lots of dreaming.

OK, I bit, we had been vaguely talking about going to Europe for four weeks in the September timeframe, no idea where, just thinking of it.

Looked today, for several different cities, and bought tickets, round-trip, Main Cabin, from our Midwest regional Airport to Amsterdam, for under $800, a very good, to great, price for that time of year. Using the "My dates are flexible" option, I was able to select the lowest price, even a day or two later the price doubled.

So pro-tip, if you look to re-book, use the "flexible dates" option, you may leave or return a day or two earlier or later, but the savings could be significant.

What will we do for a Month? At this point, no idea, we have talked about hitting some smaller towns in the Netherlands, we also wanted to hit the winefest in Bernkastel-Kues again sometime, maybe a repeat of Oktoberfest or other beerfests. Maybe we will hop a plane for a week or two and hit Greece, or Croatia, or Sicily/Malta, right now there are lots of options.

Delta owns Birmingham, so no deals here.

We have two trips with Delta booked so I checked. One, the fare has gone up. The other, I got an email on Saturday that there was a change.

So yesterday I spent a good amount of time on the phone with Delta. It is not resolved, but I will call back daily if that is what it takes. I did get the nicest agent, and he tried very hard with the help of two rebooking specialists, but we didn't get anywhere. We used miles for this, and our route was SEA-ATL-STU. Deltas change is now SEA-ATL-AMS-STU, and along with that a 7 hour layover in ATL. Needless to say this is not making me happy and I purposely chose the direct ATL to STU to avoid the big airports over there, and the layover is wayyy too long. I can be very patient and very kind as I know it is not the persons fault on the phone, and I did give options yesterday as there is a flight to go from SEA-AMS-STU, but they were unable to book that second leg. So will try again today. Thank goodness this trip is not until December, but our entire itinerary depends on where we fly into. Thank goodness I allowed a buffer day upon arrival before we continue on for the trip. Still very frustrating.
