Careful with charges

We’re currently in Iceland. I haven’t paid close attention to charges as they occur but I check each email that comes through with info on the international charges. I guess this notification is something I set a while back with the credit card we use most frequently. I often take the receipt but at times do not.

We went to a coffee shop/bakery; had a latte, tea and pastry. When I reviewed the email with the charge, the amount showed up as close to $45! (The original purchase was in Icelandic currency)

There was an item on the receipt (I had kept it!) that was the equivalent of about $30. It was some sort of cake. Thankfully it was convenient for us to return to the shop the next day. It was an honest mistake and easily remedied. We opted to get a cash refund since we didn’t have any local currency and figured we’d use it over the next two weeks. The young lady remembered us, we were there at closing time, my husband discovered one of the young women spoke Spanish so they had chatted a bit…

Trying to keep a handy conversion amount in my brain : 1000 Icelandic krona is a bit over $7

Taking your receipts is always a wise thing to do, especially when you are in a new place.
