Car rental (almost) last minute?

Hello everyone,

anyone ever rent a car sort of at the last minute for say a couple days? We go to Berlin in a month and I was hoping to rent a car just for two days. We never do this there but my mom is having trouble walking and I'd love to take her to her home town, a tiny town near there that's hard to get to without a car.

I checked and wow it's nearly 100E a day....ugh.

Anyone have thoughts on how to reduce the price?

TIA!

Try calling Andy at Gemut.com, see if they can do better. Maybe they can, maybe they can't, costs you nothing to check.

(I have no connection to the company, just a customer.)

We started the booking process today for October trip and found rates were high. The agent admitted that all quotes right now were using higher summer rates but that prices would come down if booking later. Yes, we have rented cars for a day or two on trips.

AAA member? I have rented using AAA discount (they tend to be airport or train station pickups, though)
Same for Costco.

You can check rates online for AutoEurope and Kemwel. I have also rented directly from Europcar by going online.

I looked on the Holiday Autos website, a consolidator that I always use and their rates aren’t showing anything like 100 euros a day, assuming you return it to the same depot from whence it came.

Car hire prices vary greatly depending on the hire month, with August being the highest.

We typically rent through Sixt. Super nice super friendly! I am not sure of your dates, but I looked a month out and depending on the size the base looked like $50 a day. Granted that is with out insurance, and gps, and so forth. When we do rent with them, we get a manual transmission, so if you need an automatic one, you have to ask for it. Also if you get a gps, don't forget to ask them to put it into English for you :)

Been happy with AutoEurope and their pricing.

Same here, but I've never had to make a last minute rental.

Thanks so much everyone!! Will check out all these tips. And yes I do get a manual, we have found that helps it a little with cost.
