Hotel in Sarajevo?

I've decided to stay in Sarajevo for a couple days a Wed to Sat in June. I want to be walking distance of the sights but need a quiet room plus running water all the time so am willing to stay a bit out of the action. We have a 6am flight so want a shower before we go! Am considering: Hotel Festival ,Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn. Any thoughts? I had considered Hotel Central but I was worried it would be too loud especially since we are there on a Friday night. I read that Old Town has water turned off late at night and that would be an issue for us.

Jenn, I have spent about 10 nights over five years on three different trips. Never saw the water turned off in my old town hotel. Of course I might have been asleep.

I have stayed at the Hotel President. It attempted to be a bit nicer than I needed. I say attempted, but never really suceeded. I have stayed at the hotel Sana. It was very close to perfect for quality and location and great staff and of course price. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. I have stayed at the Hotel Old Town and it was pretty much on par with the Hotel Sana. I suspect the Hotel Sana is quieter but Sarajevo isnt exactly a party town and it gets quiet early.

The Courtyard by Marriott and the Festival are both on the wrong side of the river .... well, not wrong, just not as convenient. But from both you can walk to the old town in 15 or 20 minutes. So the water goes off on one side of the river, but not the other? Interesting. The Hotel Sana might not be techniclly in the old town so maybe its different, but walk across the street and you are in the old town.

AI is often wrong, but: While tap water is generally safe in Sarajevo, temporary water shutoffs can happen for maintenance or issues, but there's no specific, universal "Old Town turns off the water" policy; it's more about localized utility work or potential war-era issues (like 'Sniper Alley' water cuts) resurfacing as maintenance, though major recent shutoffs seem linked to specific infrastructure needs, not a permanent old town feature.

I think that’s a fine choice and location. The area around Hotel Central is indeed pretty hopping, the other side of the river is quieter. I stayed at Hotel Isa Begov a little closer to the old town and would also recommend them. You need not be concerned about the water. Sarajevo’s water is abundant and absolutely fantastic.

I would recommend springing for an airport transfer, especially staying on the other side of the river.

Thank you both for your responses. Sarajevo looks amazing with so much culture and history. I'll have a look at Hotel Sana. I read about the water concern in the 7th edition Rick Steves book so maybe it is out of date. The book is what said that the water is turned off 11pm to 6pm in a large part of Old Town due to aging pipes and that it can be a hassle if you want water during that time.

I have stayed in the old town twice, once in a hotel and once in an apartment - and no issues with water now did anyone ever mention that. Sounds like a guidebook that needs updating.
