Whither Rick Steves Digital Editions

I enjoy print editions of travel books when doing research, but once on the road I prefer digital editions on my IPad, to save space and weight. I'm willing to pay for both. My wife and I are going on a France tour shortly and have the France 2016 print Rick Steves guidebook.

When will this guidebook edition show up in Digital Rick Steves? All that is displayed are the 2015 editions. An email from the Rick Steves organization said that the 2016 editions are available on Amazon in the Kindle edition. However, that causes the situation where you have ebooks scattered over different reader apps - I already have the Eyewitness Travel books in the Google Play app.

I realize that ebook needs to be formatted for different readers, but this is a Rick Steves product.

I bought mine through Google Play. I understand not wanting to spread your books around too many apps, but if you are already using Google Books, maybe that's the best option.

T'is funny: I did a Google search on "Rick Steves France 2016" (without the '"' marks). I don't remember Google Play showing up, but the ITunes Store did, which would place the purchase into IBooks, where I keep my travel documents.

In a 21 March 2011 blog post, Rick discussed ebooks. I get the idea that his publisher, Avalon Books, is not being closely monitored. I can use Google Search as well an anyone, but this is not an efficient way to market one's material.

One potential reason the library copy might not work: the checkout period may not line up with the dates of their trip.

MrsEB: Out here in the 'burbs there aren't a lot of options for ebooks. Our town library participates in a statewide pool, but that only shows up Frommer books, some of which are out of date.

I don't believe that the 2015 digital editions that you mentioned were very popular or worked as well as those on other software. So the suggestion in our Travel Store, "To purchase Rick's ebooks, please visit your favorite digital bookseller," is really the better advice there, versus following the link in the same paragraph to Rick Steves Digital.com. Of course, an online bookseller like Amazon or Barnes & Noble will display all the format options that they sell.
