The Great Courses is a company that sells a variety of college-type lectures in various formats. I like its DVDs to learn about places I have visited or am traveling to. Great for courses on art, wine, architecture, cathedrals, history of different countries, etc.. Watching a few of these can add meaning to your trip. TGC has sales. So, if a particular class is expensive - just wait for the sale. All the classes go on sale throughout the year.
I signed several Great Courses DVDs out from the library and must admit they put me to sleep. I tried the Rome ones multiple times! But glad they work for you!
Barb, I totally agree with you. I was about half way through the history of European art when we went to Italy. Hadn't made it to Bernini yet which really would have added value to our visit to Rome.
Barb I would agree with you. I download them through audible, then listen at work when I am not busy. Does the DVD format add a lot? I would agree that they sometimes put me to sleep but most have been pretty interesting.
