Smithsonian magazine ( the paper version) has in its Sept issue an article on Pompeii which may be of interest to anyone planning a visit there ......( or has been there ).

joe32F, you beat me to it! It's well worth reading. New analysis techniques are changing some of the things we thought we knew.
What I want to know is, why did the Allies drop more than 160 bombs on Pompeii? They're still finding unexploded bombs there: 96 so far.

Thanks for sharing. Just received this latest addition yesterday. It truly is amazing to read about new findings. The recently exposed fresco is spectacular. Haven't been there since 2006. May need to revisit!
