I'm Off Then: Losing and Finding Myself on the Camino de Santiago by Hape Kerkeling

Twenty years ago, on March 1st 2006, German comedian, entertainer and author Hape Kerkeling published a book about his journey in 2001 along the Camino de Santiago. On this journey he discovered also himself, and not surprising the fact that he is not a natural born hiker. Over five million copies of the book were sold. For a lot of people it was also an inspiration and motivation to do such a journey outside and inside for themselves.

Hape Kerkeling has a manifold personality between glamour, unrestricted comedy action and deep humility. Some of his roles and performances will never be forgotten, e. g. imitating Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands and passing all security checks just to get off a car at Bellevue Palace in Berlin, the residence of the German President.

So, worth reading and maybe exploring the Camino de Santiago on your own.

Happy travels.

Mark, there is also a film, which might be easier for some people to locate (2015).

My favourite sketch of his is when he imitates all the announcements at the Vatican in different languages:

Even if you don't know German it is very funny!
