Hotel Portofino on PBS

I have been following Hotel Portofino on PBS.

I believe they are just beginning their third season or I have missed episodes from the second season because what I am watching is new to me.

The episode last week was excellent and I look forward to the one this evening.

New episodes air on Sunday

I also love this series. I looked into visiting the area, but most reviews have said it's more of a yachting area now. Does anyone have any different experiences?

The Croatian coast is beautiful. But if you want to be near Portofino, Italy, Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli are close by and lovely.

After watching this series, we have decided to add it to our itinerary in October. We will be staying in Santa Margherita for a couple of days and taking a ferry over to Portofino. Per Rick Steves, “ The most appealing town north of the Cinque Terre is Santa Margherita Ligure”. I can report back when we return home.

We visited Portofino a few years ago and were unimpressed. A nice harbor with a few restaurants around it but that's about it. Good place to look at expensive boats though. On that same trip we enjoyed visiting Santa Margherita Ligure and Porto Venere, I would recommend them ahead of Portofino.

The area in Croatia where it films is in the north. A few local areas are Rijeka, Lovran, and Opatjia.
It is not far from Trieste and so there is a big Italian influence there. In fact, most Croatians in this area all speak Italian.

Interestingly the area they filmed it in was part of Italy between the wars. So they could have actually located the story in the actually town it was filmed in, and still been able to keep most of the plot...

Its being broadcast on Swiss TV as well, and we are one episode ahead of the world...

I've moved it up my list. I'll need a new show to start soon.

On another note,
The PBS series Mallorca finally returns for season 3 this upcoming weekend. A different area, but beautiful scenery included.

I have not seen Mallorca but I may be porting there on my next cruise. This weekend, huh?

Mary from SE USA. Lucy Worsley is coming back with some new shows in December. She has had some health issues but is now up and running. I posted about this in Q & A because I just discovered Recommended Books and Programs. I have been on this site for years and still discovering and still making mistakes.

Hi Pat,

I think that I have watched it. It is a Detective Series, correct. Actually I watched for the scenery more than the story.
